Good Works
Local mission outreach opportunity next date TBD! Living Waters Lutheran Church is planning to take a day and serve low-income homeowners in the Coatesville community on the second Saturday in August. Won’t you consider joining us? Here are some details about the agency with which we will serve and its general operating procedures.
Good Works is a Christian nonprofit based in Coatesville, serving low-income homeowners in Chester County. Our vision is to eliminate substandard housing in the areas we now serve – Coatesville, West Chester and Phoenixville. On the first and second Saturdays of each month, volunteers meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Coatesville Good Works shed, located at 82 Pearl Alley to work for the day on homes in need of repair. Good Works workday staff, who are also volunteers, organize the work, plan for the needed materials, and accompany each group to the homes needing work. Applicants who have been approved by our agency receive repair services on their homes free of charge. Our slogan is “warmer, safer, drier” and our primary work involves repairs on windows, roof repair, plumbing repair and replacement of floor, walls, ceilings, etc. damaged by water or plumbing leaks. A lunch is prepared and served by volunteers and the work continues after lunch, ending about 3:30 p.m. All tools and supplies are provided and our volunteers even teach people how to do what is needed! Workday staff remain in the home the entire time working beside the volunteers; you are never left on your own and there will always be someone to help you if you are unsure how to proceed. If you are interested in being part of our first workday, contact Carl Emberger or call 610-764-0057. Thank you!
